The sun hive is a bee hive created by German beekeeper and sculptor Guenther Mancke.  He wanted to create a hive that closely matched that of wild bee hives. The basket is woven by hand and attached to a top that hangs up off the ground.  It can be removed to reveal the comb inside.  It was designed so that the bees could build comb in the way they see fit for survival.  You can let them build how they like or you can use bars for them to build from so that the sections can be removed and inspected or harvested.  In this model the queen will lay eggs where she likes and workers put honey and pollen mixed around.  This is different form Langstroth design as most people use queen excluders to separate the eggs and pollen from the honey in the top boxes.
